Wow, what a day!
Campers have completed another fun-packed day of Team Homan Junior Curling Camp at the Ottawa Curling Club.
Campers started their morning with a delicious breakfast provided by our friends at Egg Farmers of Ontario before they hit the ice and the classroom.
We were fortunate to be joined by a key member of our support team in Neil Frotten of NF Functional Performance. Our strength trainer spent the morning with all campers explaining the value of good nutrition and fitness. Neil’s presentation was a big hit at our 2016 camp and had campers asking all of the right questions again this year.
The 81 junior curlers from across Canada as well as teams from Poland and Japan attended a captivating presentation by our coach Adam Kingsbury and Kyle Paquette. You could hear a pin drop in the Ottawa Curling Club as Adam and Kyle discussed mental training, focus and prioritization as it relates to effective performance. Each camper was also provided with their own copy of MarbleLabs’ Trainwave Curling Edition activity book. The book includes excercises that we’ve done many times as a team.
Curlers were also part of an extensive presentation by Joanne and Lisa on what it takes to be an effective front end player.
Technology was also a big focus on helping our campers improve their game on Saturday. Video analysis was used to improve deliveries and sweeping, speed traps were deployed to explain changing ice conditions and campers loved getting their hands on Smart Brooms!
After a delicious lunch and dinner provided by Pinty’s, parents were welcome to join Rachel, Emma, Joanne and Lisa for an Ask Team Homan Anything panel to wrap up the day. Our campers came up with dozens of intelligent, curious and fun questions to ask us before retiring for the night.
We’re looking forward to Day 3 and the Great Shootout before saying our goodbyes on Sunday evening.
