The final event of the season is upon us and we're looking to finish off the season as strong as we started it. The Pinty's Grand Slam of Curling Players' Championship started Tuesday in downtown Toronto.
The Mattamy Centre (formerly Maple Leaf Gardens) is home to the top women's and men's teams from the 2014 and 2015 season. We find ourselves in the women's Pool B taking on Teams McDonald, Middaugh, Sigfridsson, Sweeting and Tirinzoni.
Our first game of the event was Tuesday evening against Sweden's Team Sigfridsson. We picked up a 10-3 win against our former second Alison Kreviazuk who now lives in Sweden and is sparing for the Sigfridsson team all this week. It's great to see Alison back on the ice and enjoying time back in Canada!
Wednesday was another day of just one game for us. We got off to an early start against Switzerland's Team Tirinzoni and finalized the game early. The 9-4 win pushed us to 2-0 in our pool.
We moved to 3-0 with a Wednesday morning 5-3 win over Team McDonald. Our Thursday afternoon game set us back to 3-1 after a loss to Team Sweeting.
On Friday evening we bounced back nicely with an extra-end win over Team Middaugh. The win secured us a spot in the playoffs and our pre-game draw to the buttons also helped break our tie with other teams and put us right into the semi-final.
The event is televised on Sportsnet starting Thursday and for live scores and stats from every game that is on the ice you're going to want to bookmark the Players' Championship website.
Twenty-five Special Olympic curlers, plus coaches and parents from Weston Golf & Country Club (Toronto) and Dixie Curling Club (Mississauga) came to cheer us on Tuesday night. We had a lot of fun meeting them all! Thanks to those who supporter their attendance!
This is the second time Toronto has played host to the Players' Championship. Our first time here in 2013 was a lot of fun and we're looking forward to another exciting week to cap off our season.
